The Houston Summer Boat Show will kick off Wednesday at NRG Center.

The event, June 12-16, will feature more than 500 boats, campers and personal watercraft. Visitors can shop for boats, marine gear and outdoor furniture at the nine-acre expo, billed as Texas’ largest summer boat show.

The boat show will also feature dozens of seminars and exhibits, including fishing demonstrations at a 4,000-gallon aquarium filled with live bass, as well as a kids’ play area where children can bungee jump, fish and play on inflatable slides.

Texas was the No. 2 state for sales of new boats in 2018, surpassed only by Florida. Boat dealers sold $1.8 billion worth of powerboats, engines, trailers and accessories last year, up 9 percent from 2017, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Nationally, consumers purchased 276,000 new powerboats in 2018, an increase of 4 percent from 2017, the most sales in 11 years, according to the marine industry group.

“Houston is a big market for boating with about 200 lakes across Texas plus the Gulf of Mexico located just 50 miles south,” Boat Show President Ken Lovell said in a statement. “If you’ve ever wanted to own a boat or just learn more about boating, this show is a great place to start.”

Tickets are $12 for adults, and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under are free. Parking is $12 per day, cash only.
